Syringomyelia Rare condition where the spinal cord is filled with excessive CSF.
Meninges Connective tissues that protect the brain and spinal cord. Also contains blood vessels and CSF (cerebral spinal fluid)
Types of meninges Dura mater arachnoid pia matter
Dura mater Outer most layer of meninges lines skull and protects the brain.
Arachnoid Middle layer of meninges. Impermeable. Loosely surrounds brain.
Pia mater Inner most layer of meninges. Layer that touches the brain. Forms choroid plexus of ventricular system.
Types of dural spaces Epidural space Subdural space Subarachnoid space
Epidural space Space between the skull ad dura matter
Subdural space Space between dura and arachnoid
Subarachnoid space Space between the arachnoid and pia which contains CSF
