Gomphosis Fibrous joint. Two bony surfaces connected by a peg in a hole. EX:) Teeth in the mandible/maxilla are the only bones like this.
What are fibrous joints? Joints that are nonsynovial with very limited movement.
Synchondrosis Cartilaginous joint. Hyaline cartilage with slight movement. Provides stability during growth. EX:) Sternum
Symphysis Cartilaginous joint. Midline of body with slight movement. Two bones covered by hyaline cartilage but connected by fibrocartilage. EX:) pubic symphysis
What is a cartilaginous joint? Hyaline/fibrocartilage joint that connects two bones to one another.
Uniaxial joint Synovial joint. One plane of motion on one axis. EX:) Hinge (elbow) Pivot (atlantoaxial joint)
Biaxial joint Synovial joint. Two planes of motion on two axes. EX:) saddle (joints of the thumb) Condyloid (joints of the finger)
Multi axial joints Synovial joint. Three planes of motions on three axis. EX:) ball and socket (hip joint) Gliding (carpal joints)
