What is a simple sentence follows the SVO (subject verb object) order. only 1 verb group
What is a compound sentence? 2 simple clauses linked by fanboys
What is a complex sentence? Subordinate clauses linked to a main clause by connectives or verbs ending in '-ing' or '-ed'
What is a minor sentence? Fragments of a complete structures that stand alone. (Often Deictic) Doesn't have to follow the SVO order
What is a morpheme? The smallest unit of meaning. They make up all words.
What are the 3 types of morphemes and what do they do? Free morpheme can stand alone E.g:Friend Prefix-bound morpheme can be added to the beginning of a free morpheme. E.g:Unfriend Suffix-bound morpheme can be added to the end of a free morpheme. E.g:Friendly Together = UNFRIENDLY
How do you identify a subordinate clause? Indicated by commas and can appear at ant point in the sentence
What is a parenthetical clause? A subordinate clause that occurs in brackets or dashes.
What is a relative clause? A clause that uses a relative pronoun
What is the term used to describe the terms surrounding a noun? Noun phrases
What is a verb phrase? Words surrounding the verb in the sentence.
What tense describes an action that is happening now? Simple present tense I walk
What tense describes an action that is happening now and will continue to happen? Present progressive tense I Am walking
What is the present perfect tense? An action that has already happened I have walked
What is the present perfect progressive tense? An action that has happened and is unfinished I have been walking
What term describes an action that has finished and is in the past? Simple Past tense I walked
What term describes an action that was happening? Past progressive tense I was walking
What is the past perfect tense? an action that has already happened before something else happened I had walked
What tense describes the sentence: I had been walking. Past perfect progressive - an action that was continuous but has now finished
When do we use the simple future tense? When describing an action that is going to happen in future. I will walk.
What is the future progressive tense? Action is continuous and will be happening in future. I will be walking
What tense describes an action that will be completed in the future? Future perfect tense I will have walked
What tense describes an action that is continuous and will be completed in future? Future perfect progressive tense. I will have been walking
