Questão Responda
What factors regulate Glycogen Phosphorylase (breaks down alpha 1-4 bonds)? Stimulate- Adrenaline, Glucagon, Ca. Inhibit- Insulin.
What enzyme breaks down Alpha 1-4 bonds? Glycogen Phosphorylase (requires Pi)
What breaks down alpha 1-6 bonds? Glycogen debranching enzyme.
What is Glycogenolysis? Breakdown of Glycogen
Where do we store Glycogen? In Skeletal Muscle and in the Liver. Both Muscle and Liver Glycogen are broken down to Glucose-6-Phosphate, but muscle glycogen is used for ATP generation through Glycolysis, whereas liver glycogen becomes Glucose (Glucose 6 Phosphatase breaks down Glucose 6 Phosphate to Glucose)
What is Glycogen? Polymer of Glucose Molecules which is formed by both alpha 1-4 and alpha 1-6 bonds.
What are alpha 1-4 bonds? Cause linear chain of glucose, which are broken down by the enzyme Glycogen Phosphorylase (requires Pi)
What are alpha 1-6 bonds? Causes branching of Glucose Molecules, which are broken down by Debranching Enzymes.
How does branching help us? The branching, caused by alpha 1-6 bonds allows for rapid glycogen degradation as the enzymes can break down many glucose molecules simultaneously.
