What is respiration? Respiration is a series of chemical changes that take place for the cell to get it's energy.
What is the chemical reaction in word equation form? Oxygen+glucose=Carbon dioxide+water+energy
The system that controls your breathing is called? The Respiratory system.
What happens in the nasal cavity? The air passes through the cillia which catch any bacteria or dust that has been inhaled.
What is the Pharynx? It connects the mouth and nose to the ousophagus.
What is the trachea? The windpipe in the oesapgagus.
How are the lungs divided? They are divided into branches called bronchi, smaller branches called bronchioles and ending in a cluster of sacs called alveoli.
How does the gas exchange happen? The alveoli are surrounded by capilaries and since their walls are only one cell thick, the oxygen easily passes through it and into the blood cells, while the opposite happens with carbon dioxide.
What is this process called? Diffussion.
What happens next to the oxygen? The oxygen is transported where it is needed for energy.
What happens to the rib cage as you breathe? The diaphram and other muscles between your ribs contract pulling the rib cage up and out.
How does this moving of the rib cage change your physical appearance? It increases space in your chest making the air pressure in there decrease and therefore physically showing the movement of your chest up and down.
How does exercise affect your breathing? Your breathing rate becomes faster as you need more energy to keep your muscles moving.
