ENDOCRINE SYSTEM CONTROL
  1. PITUITARY AND HYPOTHALAMUS
    1. Pituitary is small gland situated in the STELLA TURCIA
      1. Just below the HYPOTHALAMUS
        1. It is connected to the hypothalamus via a STALK
    2. The Hypothalamus is a collection of SPECIALISED CELLS
      1. Located in the lower central part of the brain
        1. Is the primary link between the endocrine and nervous system
          1. Nerve cells here CONTROL THE PITUITARY
            1. either STIMULATE or SUPPRESS hormone secretion
      2. THE PITUITARY is the most important part of the endocrine system
        1. MASTER GLAND
          1. Secretions of hormones are influenced by emotions and seasons
          2. ANTERIOR AND PESTERIOR LOBES
            1. Posterior - NEUROHYPOPHYSIS composed of nervous tissue
              1. Anterior - ADENOHYPOPHYSIS composed of Glandular tissue
          3. HYPOTHALAMUS AND POSTERIOR LOBE
            1. The posterior lobe connects to hypothalamus via NEURAL PATHWAYS
              1. Posterior lobe DOES NOT produce homrones
                1. Stores them and releases 2 peptide homones
                  1. VASOPRESSIN AND OXYTOCIN
                    1. Vasopressin - Anti diuretic hormone
                      1. Oxytocin - contractions and release of milk
              2. HYPOTHALAMUS AND ANTERIOR LOBE
                1. Connects via unique VASCULAR LINK
                  1. Synthesises hormones
                    1. GH
                      1. Thyroid Stimulating
                        1. Adrenocorticotrophic - adrenal cortex to produce Cortisol
                          1. Follicle Stimulating - sperm and ovarian follicles
                            1. Lutenising - ovulation and sperm production
                              1. Prolactin - breast growth and milk
                                1. These hormones regulate body processes
                  2. HYPOTHALMIC HORMONES
                    1. Hypothalamus controls the pituitary
                      1. RELEASING and INHIBITING hormones
                        1. control the release of hormones from Anterior LOBE
                      2. SOMATOSTATIN - inhibits growth hormone
                        1. GROWTH STIMULATING HORMONE- releases GH
                          1. GONADOTROPIN - Secretes LH and FSH
                            1. THROTROPHIN - Secretes Thyroid Stimulating Hormone
                              1. CORTICOTROPHIN - Secretes ACTH
                                1. DOPAMINE - inhibits release of Prolactin
