Resumen del Recurso
ENDOCRINE SYSTEM CONTROL
PITUITARY AND HYPOTHALAMUS
Pituitary is small gland situated in the STELLA TURCIA
Just below the HYPOTHALAMUS
It is connected to the hypothalamus via a STALK
The Hypothalamus is a collection of SPECIALISED CELLS
Located in the lower central part of the brain
Is the primary link between the endocrine and nervous system
Nerve cells here CONTROL THE PITUITARY
either STIMULATE or SUPPRESS hormone secretion
THE PITUITARY is the most important part of the endocrine system
MASTER GLAND
Secretions of hormones are influenced by emotions and seasons
ANTERIOR AND PESTERIOR LOBES
Posterior - NEUROHYPOPHYSIS composed of nervous tissue
Anterior - ADENOHYPOPHYSIS composed of Glandular tissue
HYPOTHALAMUS AND POSTERIOR LOBE
The posterior lobe connects to hypothalamus via NEURAL PATHWAYS
Posterior lobe DOES NOT produce homrones
Stores them and releases 2 peptide homones
VASOPRESSIN AND OXYTOCIN
Vasopressin - Anti diuretic hormone
Oxytocin - contractions and release of milk
HYPOTHALAMUS AND ANTERIOR LOBE
Connects via unique VASCULAR LINK
Synthesises hormones
GH
Thyroid Stimulating
Adrenocorticotrophic - adrenal cortex to produce Cortisol
Follicle Stimulating - sperm and ovarian follicles
Lutenising - ovulation and sperm production
Prolactin - breast growth and milk
These hormones regulate body processes
HYPOTHALMIC HORMONES
Hypothalamus controls the pituitary
RELEASING and INHIBITING hormones
control the release of hormones from Anterior LOBE
SOMATOSTATIN - inhibits growth hormone
GROWTH STIMULATING HORMONE- releases GH
GONADOTROPIN - Secretes LH and FSH
THROTROPHIN - Secretes Thyroid Stimulating Hormone
CORTICOTROPHIN - Secretes ACTH
DOPAMINE - inhibits release of Prolactin
