  1. Expiration (passive) At Rest
    1. 1) Diaphragm relaxes (passive) External Intercostals relax (passive)
      1. 2) Diaphragm pushed upwards, RIbs/sternum move in and down
        1. 3) Thoracic cavity volume decreases
          1. 4) Lung air pressure above atmospheric air
            1. 5) Air rushes out of lungs
            2. Expiration (passive) During Exercise
              1. 1) Diaphragm relaxes, External intercostals relax, Internal intercostals contract (active) Rectus abdominals/Oblique contract (ative)
                1. 2) Diaphgram pushed up harder with more force rib/sternum pulled in and down
                  1. 3) Greater decrease in thoracic cavity volume
                    1. 4) Higher air pressure in lungs
                      1. 5) More air pushed out of the lungs
