Components of physical fitness
- Aerobic endurance
- The ability of the cardiorespiratory system to work
efficiently, supplying nutrients and oxygen to working
muscles
- Marathon runners need it to ensure they
can run over a long distance
- Muscular endurance
- Ability of the muscular system to work efficiently, where a muscle can continue
contracting continuously against a light to moderate fixed resistance load
- Flexibility
- Ability to move all joints through their full
range of movement smoothly
- Determined by how elastic the ligaments and tendons are at
a joint, how strong the muscles are that pull against the joint
and the shape of the bones that form the joint.
- Speed
- How long it takes for an individual or an object to
travel a certain distance, the faster something moves
the greater its speed
- speed= distance/time
- Muscular strength
- The maximum force that a muscle can
exert as it contracts.
- Muscles that contract and hold in one position is called 'static'
- When the muscles move contracting and extending and also when the
muscle contraction happens at high speed-explosive strength or power, is
called 'dynamic'
- Body composition
- The measure of how much of your body is made up fat-free mass and
how much s fat
